Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure

What ChatGPT and other assistants named for Austin landscapers

Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions a homeowner in Austin might ask about landscaping and garden companies. All 24 answers came back. Together they named 101 different businesses, and 69 of those were named only once. Only one was named by all four assistants.

That one was Austin Native Landscaping, named in 11 of 24 answers, 5 of them from Copilot. After that, the counts dropped quickly: Austin Creative Landscaping LLC was named in 7 answers (4 of them from Gemini), and Southern Love Landscaping & Design, Cutters Landscaping, Thrive Landscape & Design and LawnStarter Lawn Care Service in 5 each. Most landscapers that appeared at all appeared once.

For a landscaping company, the main finding is the spread of names in this run. The six questions and four assistants returned different sets of businesses. Test several customer questions and repeat them over time before drawing conclusions about your own business.

Very long lists from Copilot

The assistants gave lists of very different length. Copilot named 69 businesses across its 6 answers, 23 of them in its answer to the general question alone. Gemini named 41, Google AI Mode 36 and ChatGPT 22. In the question about the most highly reviewed landscapers, ChatGPT named no business at all and pointed to review and directory sites instead.

Design firms, lawn services and software

The names covered very different businesses: design-build landscape firms, lawn mowing services, a garden center, and lawn care marketplaces such as LawnStarter, Lawn Love and GreenPal. The question about alternatives to LawnStarter for garden design shows how wide the range was. Google AI Mode and Gemini named LawnStarter itself first. ChatGPT named local design firms, starting with Austin Native Landscaping. Copilot listed landscape design and lawn care business software instead, such as iScape, PRO Landscape and FieldRoutes, with almost no local landscapers.

The answers also used several names for the same business, such as "Southern Love" and "Southern Love Landscaping & Design" in one answer, or "LawnStarter" next to "LawnStarter Lawn Care Service". These were counted separately.

Google AI Mode answered with Google Maps places

Our data In 5 of its 6 answers, Google AI Mode showed Google Maps places: 26 businesses in total. They averaged 4.85 stars, 92% had 4.5 stars or more, and the median number of reviews was about 105. One place had only 3 reviews. That does not show that reviews are the reason a business was shown, but it describes what the places had in common: high ratings, with half of them at about 105 reviews or fewer.

All counts come from one run per question on October 14. Read them as a snapshot, not a ranking; a name in an answer is a mention, not necessarily a recommendation.

Where the names come from: websites cited for Austin landscapers

Our data ChatGPT and Copilot attached source links to all 6 of their answers, Google AI Mode to 1 and Gemini to none. The most-cited website was thumbtack.com (6 of 24 answers), followed by angi.com (5), then axios.com, reviews.birdeye.com and lawnstarter.com (3 each). Houzz, expertise.com, HomeAdvisor and austinlocalpros.com were cited twice each.

Landscapers' own websites were cited often in the specific questions. For the question about the fastest available landscaper, ChatGPT linked to 10 different websites, nearly all of them lawn and landscape companies' own pages. For xeriscaping, it cited austinnativelandscaping.com and several other company sites. Local news (axios.com) appeared in 3 answers.

The cited sources in these answers included home service marketplaces, review aggregators, Google Maps listings and, for drought-tolerant planting or quick availability questions, companies' own service pages.

Where US landscapers are usually listed and reviewed (advice): Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), Yelp, Thumbtack, Angi, Houzz for design portfolios, Nextdoor and the Better Business Bureau. If you take jobs through a lawn care marketplace, check that your profile there uses the same name as your site.

How homeowners ask about Austin landscapers

Our six questions covered a general recommendation, a specialty (xeriscaping and drought-tolerant plants), affordable maintenance packages, reviews and reputation, fast availability and alternatives to LawnStarter. In the xeriscaping question, ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Copilot all named Austin Native Landscaping, and Terra Dura Landscapes appeared in two answers. In the maintenance question, only one name, LawnStarter Lawn Care Service, came from more than one assistant.

Real customers ask with more detail: the yard, the plants, the season, the budget. Questions worth testing, written the way people type them:

  • "Who can replace my front lawn with native plants in South Austin?"
  • "Landscaper in Round Rock who builds limestone patios and fire pits"
  • "Weekly mowing and edging in Hyde Park, how much per month?"
  • "Drip irrigation for new garden beds in Cedar Park"
  • "Shade garden design for a small backyard in Travis Heights"

Use your own neighborhoods, the jobs you want more of and the words your customers use. A question with no place in it can return landscapers in another state.

Other tests in this series cover roofers in Minneapolis and house painters in Nashville.

What a landscaping company can check about how AI assistants name it

Advice: these checks are practical and most take a day or less. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your company easier to find and harder to get wrong.

  1. Separate design, installation and maintenance. Landscape design, planting, hardscape and patios, irrigation, xeriscape, mowing and seasonal cleanups: one plain-text page per service. With design firms, lawn services and apps all in the same answers, make it clear which kind of business you are.
  2. Describe your plants and methods. If you work with native and drought-tolerant plants, say which ones, for which soils and sun, and how you water them. One of our six questions asked for exactly this kind of specialist.
  3. Caption your project photos. Before and after photos say nothing in text. Add the neighborhood, the size of the yard, the plants and materials used and how long the job took, so a reader can tell what you did.
  4. Explain maintenance packages and prices. Visit frequency, what each package includes, a starting price or how you price, contract terms. One of our questions asked for affordable maintenance packages; "contact us" is hard to describe.
  5. Say when you can start. How soon can you take a new client, how far ahead are design projects booked, which months are busiest? Keep this current on your site and in your Google Business Profile.
  6. Put licenses and insurance in text. If you install irrigation, your Texas irrigator license; also insurance and any warranty on plants or work. Write it on the page, not only in a badge.
  7. Use one name everywhere. The answers used short and long versions of the same names. Check that your business name is identical on your site, Google Business Profile, Thumbtack, Angi, Houzz and Yelp.

How to check if ChatGPT names your own landscaping company

Write five or six questions your customers would ask, with Austin or your neighborhood in them, and ask several assistants the same questions. Note who is named and which websites are cited, then repeat in a few weeks, because the answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and the cited websites for each answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.

Questions

Do Google reviews matter for a landscaper to be named by ChatGPT?
We can't say how each assistant weighs reviews. What we saw: the 26 businesses Google AI Mode showed from Google Maps averaged 4.85 stars, 92% had 4.5 or more, and the median was about 105 reviews, though one had only 3. As advice, asking clients for a review after a finished project is worth doing for homeowners who compare anyway.
Why did ChatGPT and other assistants name so many different landscapers?
In this run they hardly overlapped: 101 names across 24 answers, 69 named once, and only one named by all four assistants. Copilot alone named 69 businesses across its 6 answers. Answers also change between runs, so one result is a snapshot.
Does a landscaper need to be on Thumbtack or Angi to be named?
Not necessarily, but in our Austin answers thumbtack.com was the most-cited website (6 of 24 answers) and angi.com followed with 5. Check whether your profile there exists and matches your website.
How can I check whether ChatGPT names my landscaping company?
Ask the questions your customers ask, with Austin or your neighborhood written in, to several assistants, and repeat them over a few weeks. CheckAI does this with your own questions across four assistants; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.
