Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure

What the answers show about plumbers in Atlanta

Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions an Atlanta homeowner might ask about plumbers. All 24 answers came back, and together they named 42 different plumbing companies. 19 of them were named only once, and only 4 were named by all four assistants. This is one run per question, so read the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking.

Four names recurred across assistants. Atlantis Plumbing was named in 15 of 24 answers, Fix & Flow Plumbing in 13, Atlanta Plumbing & Drain in 11 and Plumbing Express in 9, each by all four assistants. Roto-Rooter and Plumb Works followed with 6 answers each, from three assistants. Below that, many companies came from a single assistant: Superior Plumbing was named in 5 answers, 4 of them from Gemini, and SLAM Plumbing in 3, all from Google AI Mode.

A small group of names appeared repeatedly, while about half of all companies that appeared at all were named once. In this run, the names varied between the six questions and the four assistants.

The emergency question

Emergency work matters to most plumbers, so this question deserves a closer look. For "an emergency plumbing company near me in Atlanta today", Atlanta Plumbing & Drain was the only company named by all four assistants, and ChatGPT and Gemini put it first. Other names in these answers included Morningside Plumbing, Roto-Rooter, RooterPLUS! and R.S. Andrews, plus a few names that read like search phrases, such as Emergency Plumber Atlanta Kings and Emergency Plumbers LLC.

None of the answers showed a way of knowing which company actually has a technician free that afternoon. What a company states about its hours, response times and service area is what a reader of these answers, human or not, has to go on.

The alternatives question named Roto-Rooter

Asked about alternatives to Roto-Rooter, ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Copilot all named Roto-Rooter first. Google AI Mode and Copilot also named other national franchises, such as Mr. Rooter Plumbing, and Google AI Mode added Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. Only Gemini left Roto-Rooter out.

Some names came from neighboring trades: heating and cooling companies with a plumbing side (Casteel Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical, or E. Dennis), and a bath remodeler.

Google AI Mode answered with Google Maps places

Our data 5 of Google AI Mode's 6 answers came as Google Maps places: 27 places in total. Their average rating was 4.9 stars, and every one had 4.5 stars or more. Review counts were far less uniform: the median place had 1,900 reviews, the smallest had 18.

That does not show why a place was included. It does show that a high rating was common to all of them, while the number of reviews was not. A small shop with a few dozen good reviews sat in the same answers as companies with thousands.

Which websites the answers cite for plumbing companies

Our data ChatGPT and Copilot attached source links to all 6 of their answers, Google AI Mode to 2, Gemini to none. The most-cited website was angi.com (6 of 24 answers), followed by expertise.com and consumeraffairs.com (4 each), and homeadvisor.com and serviceagent.ai (3 each). Plumbing companies' own sites were cited too: deltaplumbingatlanta.com, rooterplus.com and rotorooter.com in 3 answers each, plumbingexpress.com, bardi.com and mrrooter.com in 2.

The type of question changed the sources. For the broad question about the best plumber for residential repairs, ChatGPT cited only directories and review sites. For the question about replacing old galvanized pipes, it cited eight different websites of Atlanta plumbing companies and no directory at all. A clear service page for a specific job appeared as a source when the question was about that job.

Where US plumbers are usually listed (advice): Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), Angi (which also runs HomeAdvisor), Yelp, the Better Business Bureau, Nextdoor and Thumbtack. "Best plumbers in Atlanta" lists such as Expertise.com choose on their own, so you can't simply add yourself, but you can check whether what they say about you is correct.

How homeowners ask AI assistants about plumbers in Atlanta

Our six questions covered a general recommendation (residential repairs), a specialist job (old galvanized pipe replacement), price (cheap repairs), reputation (best customer reviews), urgency (emergency today) and an alternative to a national brand (Roto-Rooter). Real customers usually describe the problem and the place. Questions worth testing for your own company, written the way people type them:

  • "Plumber in Decatur who can fix a burst pipe tonight"
  • "Who installs tankless water heaters in Marietta and gives a written quote?"
  • "Sewer line camera inspection in East Atlanta before I buy a house"
  • "Water heater leaking in Sandy Springs, who can come on a Sunday?"
  • "Plumber near Buckhead with upfront flat-rate pricing"

Use the suburbs you actually serve and the jobs you want more of. A question without a place in it can return plumbers in another city.

What a plumbing company can check to show up in AI answers

Advice: these checks are concrete and most take an hour or less. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your company easy to find and hard to get wrong.

  1. State your emergency hours plainly. Write exactly when you answer the phone and when a technician can come out: "24/7" only if it is true, otherwise the real hours, weekend availability and any after-hours fee. Put the same hours on your Google Business Profile.
  2. List your service area as text. Name the cities, neighborhoods and ZIP codes you cover (for example Decatur, Smyrna, Sandy Springs) on a page of your site, not only as a map image. An "emergency plumber near me" question depends on where you go.
  3. Give each job its own page. Water heaters, repiping (galvanized and polybutylene), drain cleaning, sewer lines, leak detection: one clear page per job, with what you do and where. In this run, service pages like these were cited for the galvanized pipe question.
  4. Show your license and insurance. Put your Georgia plumbing license number and proof of insurance on the site, in text. Homeowners look for it, and it is a plain fact that review sites and articles can quote correctly.
  5. Keep name, address and phone identical. Check Google Business Profile, Angi, Yelp, the BBB and your own site for the same company name, phone number and service area. Spelling variants of one company can end up counted as different names.
  6. Complete your Google Business Profile. 5 of 6 Google AI Mode answers in this run were Maps places. Check the primary category, the service area, the hours, current photos of your trucks and team, and that recent reviews have a reply where one is useful.
  7. Be clear about price. One question asked for cheap repairs. If you charge a service call fee, offer free estimates, flat-rate pricing or financing, say so on your site in plain words.

How to check whether ChatGPT names your plumbing company

Write five or six questions your customers would ask, with Atlanta or your suburb in them and the jobs you do most, and ask several assistants the same questions. Note who is named and which websites are cited, then repeat in a few weeks, because the answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and the cited websites for each answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free. Our guide on how to check if ChatGPT names your business walks through the manual version.

Questions

Which plumbers does ChatGPT recommend in Atlanta?
In our October 14 run, the four assistants gave 42 different names in 24 answers, 19 of them only once. Atlantis Plumbing was named most often, in 15 of 24 answers. One run per question, so a snapshot, not a ranking.
Do reviews matter for ChatGPT naming a plumber in Atlanta?
We can't say how each assistant weighs them. What we saw: the 27 places Google AI Mode showed from Google Maps all had 4.5 stars or more, but their review counts ranged from 18 to well over a thousand. As advice, a complete Google listing with current reviews is worth keeping for customers anyway.
Does my plumbing company need to be on Angi to be named?
Not necessarily, but angi.com was the most-cited website in our Atlanta answers (6 of 24), and homeadvisor.com was cited in 3. Check whether your listing there exists and has the right name, phone number and service area.
How do I show up for emergency plumber questions in AI answers?
Nothing can promise that. In this run, only one company was named by all four assistants for the emergency question. As advice, state your real hours, after-hours availability and service area in plain text on your site and on your Google listing.
How can I check whether ChatGPT names my plumbing company?
Ask the questions your customers ask, with the city or suburb written in, to several assistants, and repeat them over a few weeks. CheckAI does this with your own questions across four assistants; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.
