Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure
What ChatGPT and other assistants named for Chicago heat pump installers
Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions a Chicago homeowner might ask about heat pump installers. All 24 answers came back, and together they named 53 different companies. 32 of them were named only once, and only 4 were named by all four assistants. This is one run per question, so read the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking.
Two names came up most often. Four Seasons Heating & Air Conditioning was named in 10 of 24 answers, by all four assistants, and All Temp Heating and Air Conditioning also in 10, by three. Besco Air and Shavitz Heating and Air Conditioning followed with 8 answers each, both by all four assistants. Northwind Heating and Air Conditioning, Deljo Heating and Browns Heating & Cooling each had 7. Frontline Heating & Cooling was the fourth company named by all four, in 5 answers.
The assistants gave lists of very different length. ChatGPT named 22 companies across its 6 answers, Google AI Mode 30, Gemini 31 and Copilot 54. Copilot's answer to the comparison question alone had 18 names. Some companies came almost entirely from one assistant: Browns Heating & Cooling was named in 7 answers, 5 of them from Copilot, and TDH Mechanical in 4, all from Copilot.
For an installer, this means a few names recur, but most of the field changes with the question and the assistant. Being named once by one assistant says little; being named across several questions and assistants is rarer.
The comparison question named Four Seasons first
One question asked about heat pump installers in Chicago compared to Four Seasons Heating. All four assistants named Four Seasons first in that answer. So 4 of its 10 answers came from the question that used its name; across the other five questions it was named in 6.
Heating companies, not heat pump specialists
Almost every name was a general heating and cooling company, and several also do plumbing. Some names were not installers at all. Copilot listed equipment brands such as Bosch, Mitsubishi, Trane and American Standard in its answer to the first question, Gemini named MRCOOL for the price question, and Copilot also listed HomeAdvisor as if it were an installer.
The question about old homes with radiators produced the most specialized answers. American Vintage Home was named there by ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot, and in no other question. For a company that does this kind of work, that is a sign that a clear specialty can show up when the question is specific enough.
Google AI Mode answered with Google Maps places
Our data All 6 of Google AI Mode's answers came as Google Maps places: 26 places in total. Their average rating was 4.88 stars, and every one had 4.5 stars or more. The median place had 677 reviews; the smallest had 14.
That does not show why a place was included. It shows that a high rating was common to all of them, and that most had many reviews, while a few with far fewer still appeared next to them.
Where the names come from: websites cited for Chicago heat pump installers
Our data ChatGPT and Copilot attached source links to all 6 of their answers, Google AI Mode to 3 and Gemini to 1. The most-cited websites were expertise.com and homeadvisor.com (8 of 24 answers each), then angi.com (5) and consumeraffairs.com (3). reddit.com was cited in 3 answers, and modernize.com in 2.
Installers' own websites were cited often too: fourseasonsheatingcooling.com in 5 answers, northwindchicago.com, deljoheating.com and frontlineheatingcooling.com in 3 each, americanvintagehome.com and ecotemphvac.com in 2. For the question about historic homes with radiators, ChatGPT cited seven websites, nearly all of them heating companies' own sites and none of them a directory. For the broad "best installer" question, it cited mostly directories and review sites instead.
Where US heat pump installers are usually listed (advice): Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), Angi (which also runs HomeAdvisor), Yelp, the Better Business Bureau and Nextdoor. EnergySage, which appeared once in our sources, lists installers for home energy projects. Many equipment manufacturers also run contractor locators for their brand. "Best installers in Chicago" lists such as Expertise.com choose on their own, so you can't simply add yourself, but you can check what they say about you.
How homeowners ask about Chicago heat pump installers
Our six questions covered a general recommendation for residential homes, a specialist job (old historic homes with radiators), price and value, reviews and reputation, urgent installation and a comparison with a well-known local company. Homeowners usually describe their house, their current heating and the place. Questions worth testing for your own company:
- "Cold climate heat pump installer in Evanston to replace a gas furnace"
- "Ductless mini split for a two-flat in Logan Square, who installs them?"
- "Heat pump installer in Oak Park who helps with rebate paperwork"
- "Can a heat pump work with the radiators in my 1920s house in Chicago?"
- "Heat pump installer in Naperville with financing and a written quote"
Use the suburbs you serve and the jobs you want more of. A question without a place in it can return installers in another state.

What a heat pump installer can check about how AI assistants name it
Advice: these checks are concrete and most take an hour or two. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your company easy to find and hard to get wrong.
- Give heat pumps their own page. If heat pumps are one service among furnaces, AC and plumbing, give them a page that says which systems you install (ducted, ductless mini split, air to water), for which kinds of homes, and whether you replace or keep the existing furnace as backup.
- Describe the house types you work on. Chicago bungalows, two-flats, greystones, homes with radiators or without ducts. In this run, the radiator question was the one where installers' own pages were cited most.
- Name the brands you install. Assistants named equipment brands next to installers. Say plainly which manufacturers you install and service, and whether you hold any manufacturer contractor status, so your company and the equipment are connected in text.
- Explain cost, rebates and financing. One question asked for the most affordable installer. Typical price ranges, what a quote includes, whether you help with utility rebates or other incentives, and any financing you offer belong on the site in plain words.
- Be honest about lead times. One question asked for urgent installation. Say how soon you can usually do an assessment and an install, and whether you offer emergency repair, so the answer is not a guess.
- List your service area as text. Name the neighborhoods and suburbs you cover, for example Evanston, Oak Park or Naperville, on a page of your site, not only as a map image.
- Complete your Google Business Profile. All Google AI Mode answers in this run were Maps places. Check that heat pump installation is in your services, that your hours and photos of real installs are current, and that the name matches your site, Angi and Yelp exactly.
How to check if ChatGPT names your own company
Write five or six questions your customers would ask, with Chicago or your suburb in them and the systems you install, and ask several assistants the same questions. Note who is named and which websites are cited, then repeat in a few weeks, because the answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and the cited websites for each answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.
