Which Atlanta restaurants do ChatGPT and other AI assistants name?

In this run the names were widely scattered: asked about restaurants in Atlanta, ChatGPT and the other assistants named 116 different places in 24 answers, 75 of them only once. The most-named restaurant appeared in 9 of 24 answers, and every place Google AI Mode showed from Google Maps had at least 221 reviews.

In short

  • 116 different restaurants were named in 24 answers; 75 of them came up only once, and only 5 were named by all four assistants.
  • No restaurant was named in more than 9 of 24 answers, so a single check says little about where one restaurant stands.
  • All 6 Google AI Mode answers came as Google Maps places: 30 places, 4.6 stars on average, a median of 2,750 reviews.
  • Specific questions, such as a place open right now near downtown, produced more overlap between assistants than the broad question about the most recommended restaurants.

What the assistants answered

We asked 6 questions the way a customer in Atlanta would ask them, logged out, to ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot on October 14, 2026. That gave 24 answers. Below is what they contained, counted, not estimated.

Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure

What the answers show about restaurants in Atlanta

Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions a diner in Atlanta might ask. All 24 answers came back, and together they named 116 different restaurants. 75 of those were named only once, and only 5 were named by all four assistants. In other words, most restaurants that appeared at all appeared in a single answer.

Even the most-named places were far from universal. Marcel was named in 9 of 24 answers, by all four assistants. Lazy Betty followed with 7, and Canoe with 6, both also named by all four. Atlanta Breakfast Club (5) and Metro Diner and Bar (4) complete the five named by every assistant. No restaurant came close to appearing in every answer.

The assistants also gave lists of very different lengths. Copilot named 78 restaurants across its 6 answers, Gemini 59, ChatGPT 48 and Google AI Mode 35. A longer list gives more restaurants a chance to be named, but each one is only one name among many.

The answers differed by question. For the broad question about Atlanta restaurants, no name appeared among the first names of all four answers. For the question about a place open right now near downtown, all four put Metro Diner and Bar among the first names they gave, and three also named Atlanta Breakfast Club.

Google AI Mode answered with Google Maps places

Our data All 6 of Google AI Mode's answers came as Google Maps places rather than web pages: 30 places in total. Their average rating was 4.6 stars, 80% of them had 4.5 stars or more, and the median number of reviews was 2,750. The place with the fewest reviews still had 221.

That does not show that reviews are the reason a place was shown. It only describes the places in this snapshot: they had high ratings and many reviews. The data does not show how a different rating or review count would affect an answer.

Which websites the answers cite for restaurants

Our data ChatGPT attached source links to all 6 of its answers and Copilot to 5. Gemini attached none, and Google AI Mode answered with Maps places instead of links. So the cited websites below come almost entirely from ChatGPT and Copilot.

The most-cited website was tripadvisor.com (7 of 24 answers), followed by theinfatuation.com (6), opentable.com (4) and atlanta.eater.com (3). Atlanta Magazine, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (ajc.com), diningout.com and recommended.app were cited twice each.

The cited sources in these answers were largely city food guides, review sites and reservation platforms, plus Google Maps listings for AI Mode. A restaurant's own website was hardly cited at all.

Where Atlanta restaurants are usually listed (advice): Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), Yelp, Tripadvisor, and a reservation platform such as OpenTable or Resy if you take bookings. Local food media such as Eater Atlanta, The Infatuation and Atlanta Magazine choose their own picks, so you can't list yourself there, but you can check that what they say about you is correct.

How diners ask AI assistants about restaurants in Atlanta

Our six questions covered a general recommendation, an occasion (a romantic anniversary dinner), price (cheap eats), reputation (consistent positive reviews), urgency (open right now near downtown) and an alternative to a well-known restaurant (Mary Mac's Tea Room). In the last one, ChatGPT named Mary Mac's Tea Room itself among the first names, and South City Kitchen came up in three of the four answers.

Real guests ask more specific questions than these. Questions worth testing for your own restaurant, written the way people type them:

  • "Where can I get brunch in Inman Park on Sunday without a reservation?"
  • "Which restaurants in Midtown Atlanta have good vegan options?"
  • "Kid-friendly restaurant with outdoor seating on the Westside of Atlanta"
  • "Where can I book a private dining room for 20 people in Buckhead?"
  • "Late-night food near State Farm Arena after a concert"

Use your own neighborhood, cuisine and the occasions you actually serve. A question with no place in it can return restaurants in another city.

What a restaurant can check to show up in AI answers

Advice: these checks are practical and you can do them yourself in an afternoon. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your restaurant easier to find and harder to get wrong.

  1. Put the menu on your site as text. A menu that exists only as a PDF or a photo is harder to read for people on phones and for any system that reads web pages. Include prices, dietary labels (vegan, gluten-free) and the dishes you are known for.
  2. Say what and where in the first lines. "Southern restaurant in Midtown Atlanta, open for brunch and dinner" tells a reader more than a slogan. Name the neighborhood, the cuisine and the occasions you are good for.
  3. Keep hours identical everywhere. Check your site, Google Business Profile, Yelp, Tripadvisor and your reservation page for the same opening hours, kitchen closing time and holiday hours. An "open right now" question depends on these.
  4. Complete your Google Business Profile. All Google AI Mode answers in this run came as Maps places. Check the category, price range, attributes (outdoor seating, reservations, wheelchair access), current photos, and that recent reviews have a reply where one is useful.
  5. Write down the occasions you serve. Private dining, group bookings, kids' menu, parking, late kitchen: if guests ask for it, give it a clear section or page on your site with the details, not just a line on a photo.
  6. Check the guides that were cited. Open the Tripadvisor, The Infatuation, Eater Atlanta and OpenTable pages for your cuisine and area. Are you listed? Are your address, hours and price level right? Is a press contact easy to find on your site?
  7. Test the reservation path. If you take bookings, make sure the booking link on your site works and goes to the same platform listed elsewhere, so a guest who finds you can book in one step.

How to check whether ChatGPT names your restaurant

Write five or six questions your guests would ask, with Atlanta or your neighborhood in them, and ask several assistants the same questions. Note who is named and which websites are cited, then repeat in a few weeks, because the answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and the cited websites for each answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free. Our guide on how to check if ChatGPT names your business walks through the manual version.

Questions

Which restaurants does ChatGPT recommend in Atlanta?
In our October 14 run, the four assistants gave 116 different names in 24 answers, 75 of them only once. Marcel was named most often, in 9 of 24 answers. One run per question, so a snapshot, not a ranking.
Do reviews matter for ChatGPT naming a restaurant in Atlanta?
We can't say what each assistant weighs. What we saw: the 30 places Google AI Mode showed from Google Maps averaged 4.6 stars, with a median of 2,750 reviews and at least 221 each. As advice, keeping your Google listing complete and reviews current is worth doing for customers anyway.
Why do ChatGPT and Gemini name different restaurants for the same question?
In this run they overlapped little: 116 restaurants were named across 24 answers, and only 5 were named by all four assistants. Answers can also change between runs, so treat one result as a snapshot.
Does a restaurant need to be on Tripadvisor or OpenTable to be named?
Not necessarily, but tripadvisor.com was the most-cited website in our Atlanta answers (7 of 24) and opentable.com was cited in 4. Check whether your listing there exists and is correct.
How can I check whether ChatGPT names my restaurant?
Ask the questions your guests would ask, with the city or neighborhood written in, to several assistants, and repeat them over a few weeks. CheckAI does this with your own questions across four assistants; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.
