Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure

What the answers show about wedding photographers in Portland

Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions a couple planning a wedding in Portland, Oregon might ask about photographers. All 24 answers came back, and together they named 79 different photographers and studios. 48 of them were named only once. Only 3 were named by all four assistants: Katy Weaver Photography, Here Today and Fritz Photography.

Katy Weaver Photography was named most often, in 9 of 24 answers, 4 of them from Google AI Mode. Here Today, Kate Holt Photography, Dan Rice Photography, Fritz Photography and Catalina Jean followed with 8 answers each. Dan Rice Photography and Fritz Photography were each named 5 times by Copilot; Kate Holt Photography and Catalina Jean were not named by ChatGPT at all. This is one run per question, so read the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking.

For a wedding photographer, this means there was no short list that every assistant agreed on. Most photographers who appeared at all appeared in one answer, from one assistant. The length of the lists differed too: Copilot's answers named 7 to 11 photographers each, ChatGPT's answers between 3 and 6.

Specific questions, different names

The question about large weddings had the clearest pattern: ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini all put Fritz Photography first, and Copilot named it too. The question about an outdoor ceremony on a rainy day had almost no overlap at the top; Lauren Miles Photo was the only name that three assistants shared there. For candid style photos, Katy Weaver Photography and Kate Holt Photography were each named by three assistants.

Platforms in the list

Asked where to find an available photographer on short notice, Gemini named five photographers and then seven platforms and publications, among them Thumbtack, TaskRabbit, Snappr, Flytographer, Style Me Pretty, Junebug Weddings and a directory of Oregon Bride Magazine. A question about availability may point couples to a marketplace rather than to a studio.

Google AI Mode answered with Maps

Our data Google AI Mode answered 4 of its 6 questions with Google Maps places, 24 in total. These had an average rating of 4.99 stars, a median of 116 reviews and at least 42; all 24 were rated 4.5 or higher.

Which websites the answers cite for wedding photographers

Our data ChatGPT and Copilot attached source links to all 6 of their answers, Gemini to 2 and Google AI Mode to 1, as its Maps answers came without links. The most-cited websites were theknot.com (9 of 24 answers) and weddingwire.com (7), followed by fritzphoto.com and zola.com (3 each). Two answers also cited what looks like a staging address of The Knot's site.

The rest were mostly photographers' own websites: katyweaver.com, kateholtphotography.com, brianamorrison.com, bethblakephotography.com and weddingphotographerguy.com were each cited in 2 answers, and partyslate.com and reddit.com in 2. ChatGPT in particular linked to many portfolios: its answer about a rainy day ceremony cited 10 different sites, nearly all of them photographers' own, while naming only 3 photographers.

The cited sources included wedding planning platforms and photographers' own sites.

Where US wedding photographers are usually listed and reviewed (advice): Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, PartySlate and Yelp; local wedding magazines and their vendor directories; the "preferred vendor" lists of wedding venues; and Instagram, which many couples use to look at recent work.

How couples ask AI assistants about wedding photographers in Portland

Our six questions covered candid style, a rainy outdoor ceremony, value for money, experience with large weddings, availability on short notice and alternatives to the big studios. Couples usually ask with their date, venue and style in the question. Questions worth testing, written the way couples type them:

  • "Documentary wedding photographer in Portland Oregon for an elopement at Multnomah Falls"
  • "Wedding photographer in Portland who also shoots video, packages under one price"
  • "Portland wedding photographer experienced with Indian weddings over several days"
  • "Who photographs small courthouse weddings in Portland Oregon on a weekday?"
  • "LGBTQ friendly wedding photographer in Portland Oregon"

Put in your own venues, styles and the kinds of weddings you want more of. A question without a place may return photographers from another city.

What a wedding photographer can check to show up in AI answers

Advice: these checks can be done in an afternoon or two. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your business easy to find and hard to misread.

  1. Describe your style in words. Candid, documentary, editorial, film: say it in text on your homepage and about page, not only through photos. Style was the subject of one of our questions.
  2. Publish starting prices or packages. State what full-day coverage starts at, what is included, whether you offer a second shooter and any travel fees. One question asked about value for money.
  3. Write up real weddings with venue names. A blog post per wedding with the venue, the season and the weather, for example a rainy ceremony at a forest venue, shows experience that a question can match.
  4. Say how you handle large weddings and short notice. Typical guest counts, second shooters, how far ahead you book and whether you take last-minute dates. Two of our questions asked exactly this.
  5. Check The Knot, WeddingWire and Zola. These were the most-cited sites. Is your profile there, with your current name, prices, service area and recent reviews?
  6. Keep the Google Business Profile complete. Category, service area, photos and reviews. Google AI Mode answered 4 of 6 questions with Maps places, all rated 4.5 or higher.
  7. Use one business name everywhere. Your name or your studio name, spelled the same on your site, Google, Instagram and the wedding platforms.

How to check whether ChatGPT names your photography business

Write down five or six questions couples would ask, with Portland or your area in the question, and ask several assistants. Note who is named and which websites are cited, and repeat after a few weeks, because answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and cited websites for every answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free. Our guide on how to check if ChatGPT names your business walks through the manual version.

Questions

Which wedding photographers does ChatGPT recommend in Portland, Oregon?
In our October 14 run, the four assistants gave 79 different names in 24 answers, 48 of them only once. Katy Weaver Photography was named most often, in 9 of 24 answers. One run per question, so a snapshot, not a ranking.
Do reviews matter for ChatGPT naming a wedding photographer in Portland?
We cannot say how each assistant weighs reviews. What we saw: all 24 photographers that Google AI Mode showed as Maps places had 4.5 stars or more, with a median of 116 reviews and at least 42. As advice, asking couples for a review after the gallery is delivered is worth doing anyway.
Do I need to be on The Knot or WeddingWire to be named?
Not necessarily, but in this run theknot.com was cited in 9 of 24 answers and weddingwire.com in 7, more than any other site. Check whether your profiles there exist and are current.
Why do ChatGPT and Copilot name different wedding photographers for the same question?
The assistants overlapped very little: 79 names in 24 answers, only 3 named by all four. Answers can also change from one run to the next, so one result is a snapshot.
Does a wedding photographer's own website get cited?
In this run, photographers' own websites were cited often, especially by ChatGPT. As advice, state your style, packages and service area clearly in plain text.
