Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure
What the answers show about physical therapists in Austin
Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions a patient in Austin might ask when looking for physical therapy. All 24 answers came back, and together they named 57 different practices, therapists and services. 34 of those were named only once, and only 4 practices were named by all four assistants.
Texas Physical Therapy Specialists was named in 10 of 24 answers, by all four assistants, with 4 of those mentions from Gemini. Austin Sports Medicine followed with 9 (4 from Google AI Mode), Symmetry Physical Therapy with 8 and Austin Physical Therapy with 6, all four named by every assistant. Carter Physiotherapy also appeared in 6 answers, but from three assistants, and Your PT Doc was named in 5 answers, all of them from Google AI Mode. This is one run per question, so read the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking.
The assistants differed in how much they named: ChatGPT 25 names across its 6 answers, Gemini 28, Google AI Mode 34 and Copilot 43.
A clinical need returned a different set of names
For the question about post-surgery knee rehabilitation, all four assistants named Austin Sports Medicine, two of them first, and three named Austin Orthopedic Institute. The broad question about injury recovery spread much wider: across the four answers, only Athletes' Edge, Carter Physiotherapy, Texas Physical Therapy Specialists and AOK Physical Therapy came up more than once, each in two answers.
In the question about alternatives to big chains like ATI, Gemini named ATI Physical Therapy first, and Copilot also listed it.
Not every name was a practice
Some names were people or platforms. Copilot named individual therapists in four of its answers, and in the question about availability today it listed Zocdoc and Healthgrades as if they were providers. Google AI Mode and Gemini named MDsave, a platform for prepaid medical prices, for the question about transparent pricing. Similar names were also counted separately: "Austin Physical Therapy" and "Austin Physical Therapy Specialists" both appear in the answers, and from the names alone it is not clear whether they mean the same business.
Google AI Mode answered with Google Maps places
Our data All 6 of Google AI Mode's answers came as Google Maps places, 31 in total. Every one had 4.5 stars or more, the average was 4.9, and the median number of reviews was 206. The clinic with the fewest reviews had 14. That does not show that reviews are the reason a clinic was shown; it records the figures for these places in this run.
Which websites the answers cite for physical therapy practices
Our data ChatGPT and Copilot attached source links to all 6 of their answers, Google AI Mode to 2 and Gemini to none. The most-cited websites were healthgrades.com and foreverforwardpt.com (4 of 24 answers each), followed by trustanalytica.org and austinsportsmed.com (3 each). zocdoc.com, threebestrated.com, fairvisithealth.com and several practices' own websites, such as recoverperform.com, trainingroomaustin.com, ptatx.com and helixsportsmed.com, were cited twice each.
So in Austin, half of the twelve most-cited websites were practices' own sites, next to doctor directories, "top rated" list sites and price comparison sites. For the question about transparent pricing, ChatGPT cited several healthcare price sites, and Google AI Mode cited ten websites, most of them practices' pages.
Where US physical therapy practices are usually listed (advice): Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), Yelp, Healthgrades, Zocdoc, the American Physical Therapy Association's Find a PT directory, and the provider directories of the insurance plans you are in-network with. If you work with orthopedic surgeons or sports medicine physicians, their referral pages are worth checking too.

How patients ask AI assistants about physical therapists in Austin
Our six questions covered injury recovery, post-surgery knee rehab, transparent pricing, ratings and experience, an appointment today, and alternatives to a large chain. Patients usually add their insurance, their condition or their schedule. Questions worth testing, written the way people type them:
- "Physical therapist in South Austin that takes Blue Cross Blue Shield"
- "Pelvic floor physical therapy in Austin after pregnancy"
- "Cash pay physical therapy in Austin, how much per session?"
- "PT for runners in Austin with appointments before 7am"
- "Physical therapy for ACL rehab in North Austin, one-on-one sessions"
Use your own neighborhood, the plans you take and the conditions you treat most. A question without a place in it can return clinics in another city.
What a physical therapy practice can check to show up in AI answers
Advice: these checks are concrete and most can be done in an afternoon. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your practice easy to find and hard to get wrong.
- Publish your prices in text. The cash-pay rate for an evaluation and a follow-up visit, package prices if you have them, and which insurance plans you are in-network with. One of our questions asked for transparent pricing, and practices' own pages were cited for it.
- Give each condition and specialty a page. Post-surgery knee and shoulder rehab, sports injuries, pelvic floor, vestibular therapy, dry needling: one page each, saying who on your team does it and what a course of treatment looks like.
- Say how fast a new patient can start. Whether you have same-week evaluations, early or late hours, and how to book online. State whether a patient needs a physician referral in their situation, or point them to where they can find out.
- Link therapists to the practice. Some answers named individual therapists. Give each therapist a short bio page with credentials and specialties on your site, and check that their profiles on Healthgrades or Zocdoc name your practice and address.
- Use one clear business name. If your name is close to another clinic's, use the full name consistently on your site, Google and directories, with the address and neighborhood near it, so your practice is not mixed up with a similar name.
- Keep your Google Business Profile complete. All Google AI Mode answers here came as Maps places. Check the category, hours, appointment link and photos of the treatment area, and reply to reviews without confirming that the reviewer is a patient or mentioning their condition.
- Check the directories that were cited. Open Healthgrades, Zocdoc and the "top rated" pages for Austin physical therapy. Are you listed, with the right address, hours and specialties?
How to check whether ChatGPT names your physical therapy practice
Write five or six questions your patients would ask, with Austin or your neighborhood in them, and ask several assistants. Note who is named and which websites are cited, then repeat in a few weeks, because the answers change. CheckAI checks your own patient questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and cited websites for every answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free. Our guide on how to check if ChatGPT names your business walks through the manual version.
