Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure

What ChatGPT and other assistants named for Phoenix financial advisors

Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions someone in Phoenix might ask when looking for an independent financial advisor. All 24 answers came back. Together they named 83 different names, and 57 of them came up only once. Only two names came from all four assistants. It was one run per question, so read the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking.

Endeavor Advisors was named in 8 of 24 answers, by all four assistants, and Singh Private Wealth Management in 6, also by all four. Sensible Money appeared in 6 answers, but only from Google AI Mode and Gemini, three each. Dynamic Financial Planning followed with 5. DEK Financial Solutions, Farnam Financial, Bright Wealth Management and Continuum Wealth Management came up in 4 each.

No firm appeared in more than a third of the answers, and in three of the six questions no name was repeated by three or more assistants. The names differed between assistants in this run.

Directories, networks and big firms among the names

Not every name was an advisory firm. Several answers named directories and networks as places to look: Fee-Only Network (under several spellings), XY Planning Network, NAPFA, Garrett Planning Network, Wealthtender and the U.S. News advisor finder. Copilot also named four individual advisors by name in the fee-only question. Large national firms appeared too, among them Creative Planning, CAPTRUST and Ameriprise Financial Services.

When a client asks where to find an advisor, the answers may name a directory rather than a firm. As advice, keep any directory profiles you hold up to date.

The Charles Schwab question

Asked for independent alternatives to Charles Schwab in Phoenix, Google AI Mode and Gemini named Charles Schwab first, and Gemini also named Fidelity and BNY Mellon. ChatGPT and Copilot named only other firms; Copilot listed 14. This question produced 32 different names, the most of the six questions. In this one question, the named company appeared first in two assistants' answers.

Narrow questions, fewer names

The question about advisors for tech workers planning early retirement produced only 9 different names, and three assistants named Singh Private Wealth Management. The question about reputation and experience produced 10, with Endeavor Advisors named by three. In these two questions the assistants overlapped more than in the broad ones.

Google Maps: high stars, few reviews

Our data Google AI Mode answered 4 of its 6 questions with Google Maps places, 17 firms in total. They averaged 4.98 stars, all with 4.5 stars or more. But the number of reviews was small: the median was 22, and the place with the fewest had 1.

That does not explain why a firm appeared. It records the review counts in this group: the median was 22 and the smallest count was 1.

Where the names come from: websites cited for Phoenix financial advisors

Our data ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Copilot linked sources in all 6 of their answers, Gemini in only 1. The most-cited website was feeonlynetwork.com (10 of 24 answers). arizonafeeonly.org, phoenixfeeonly.com and the XY Planning Network directory followed with 5 each, as did wsj.com, cited only by ChatGPT. expertise.com came up in 4 answers, wealthtender.com in 3 and fiduciarylistings.com in 2.

Advisor websites were cited heavily: singhpwm.com in 7 answers, continuum-wealth.com and dekfinancialsolutions.com in 5 each, sensiblemoney.com in 4. singhpwm.com was also cited in four answers that did not name Singh Private Wealth Management at all, three from ChatGPT and one from Google AI Mode. An advisor's own articles can serve as a source even where the firm itself is not named.

Where independent advisors are usually listed and checked (advice): the Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), fee-only directories such as NAPFA, XY Planning Network and Fee-Only Network if you qualify, the CFP Board's planner search for certified planners, advisor review sites such as Wealthtender, and the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure site and FINRA BrokerCheck, where clients can look up registration and history.

How clients ask about Phoenix financial advisors

Our six questions covered comprehensive wealth management, early retirement for tech workers, fee-only pricing, reputation and experience, a consultation this week and alternatives to Charles Schwab. Clients usually describe their life situation more than the service. Questions worth testing, written the way people type them:

  • "Fee-only financial planner in Scottsdale for a couple retiring in the next five years"
  • "Financial advisor in Phoenix who works with teachers and the Arizona state retirement plan"
  • "Flat fee financial planner in Tempe for a one-time plan, no asset management"
  • "Advisor in Chandler who helps with stock options and RSUs from my employer"
  • "Financial planner in Phoenix for a widow who has never managed the investments"

Use the cities you serve and the client situations you specialize in. The narrower questions in our run returned fewer, more repeated names.

Other tests in this series cover accountants in San Diego and insurance brokers in Atlanta.

What an advisory firm can check about how AI assistants name it

Advice: these checks are concrete and most take an hour or two. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your firm easy to find and hard to misread. Advertising by advisers is regulated, including testimonials, ratings and performance claims; have your compliance contact review changes before they go live.

  1. State how you are paid, in plain words. Fee-only, flat fee, hourly, percentage of assets, or commissions: one fee question was part of our run. Make sure the words on your site match your regulatory filings, for example your Form ADV.
  2. Name the clients you serve. Tech workers, pre-retirees, business owners, physicians, widows: one page per client group, saying what you do for them. The narrow question about tech workers returned only 9 names.
  3. Keep directory profiles current. Fee-only and planner directories were the most-cited sources. Check your profile on each network you belong to: services, minimums, fees, city and contact.
  4. Show credentials that can be verified. CFP, CFA or other designations, and your registration, with a link to your record on the public disclosure site. Use the same firm name as in your filings.
  5. Make a first meeting easy to find. One question asked for a consultation this week. Describe what a first meeting covers, whether it is free, and how to book it.
  6. Publish useful articles under your firm's name. An advisor's site was cited in answers that named other firms. Consider plain, dated explanations of local topics, such as Arizona retirement plans or taxes on stock compensation.
  7. Keep the Google Business Profile accurate. Address, hours, services and category, so that local questions find the right firm. Handle reviews within the rules that apply to you.

How to check if ChatGPT names your own firm

Write down five or six questions your clients would ask, with Phoenix or your city and their situation, and put them to several assistants. Note who is named, whether directories appear instead of firms, and which websites are cited. Repeat after a few weeks, because answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and cited websites for every answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.

Questions

Do Google reviews matter for a financial advisor to be named by ChatGPT?
We cannot say how the assistants weigh reviews. In this run, the 17 Google Maps places all had 4.5 stars or more, with a median of 22 reviews, and one had a single review. Rules on testimonials and ratings apply to advisers, so check with your compliance contact before you ask clients for reviews.
Does being listed in a fee-only advisor directory help?
We cannot say that it causes a mention. In this run, feeonlynetwork.com was the most-cited website (10 of 24 answers), and arizonafeeonly.org, phoenixfeeonly.com and the XY Planning Network directory were cited in 5 each. If you are fee-only, a current profile there is a reasonable check.
Why did ChatGPT name directories and big firms instead of local financial advisors?
Some answers named networks such as Fee-Only Network, NAPFA or XY Planning Network as places to look, and the Schwab question also returned Schwab, Fidelity and other large firms. Questions about where to find an advisor can return directories, not firms.
How can I check whether ChatGPT names my advisory firm?
Ask several assistants the questions your clients ask, with the city written in, and repeat this over a few weeks, because answers change. CheckAI does this with your own questions across four assistants; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.
