Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure

What ChatGPT and other assistants named for Seattle furniture stores

Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions a customer in Seattle might ask when looking for a furniture store. All 24 answers came back, and together they named 53 different stores, chains and brands. 27 of those were named only once, and 6 were named by all four assistants.

Ballard Consignment was named in 12 of 24 answers, by all four assistants; the answers also named its Broadview store separately, in 5 more. Room & Board followed with 11 answers, 5 of them from Copilot, and Tirto Furniture with 10, also 5 from Copilot. IKEA and Modern Design Sofas came up in 7 answers each, COUCH and Seattle Furniture Company in 6. This is one run per question, so read the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking.

For a furniture store, that means the answers did not separate local shops from national chains. A local consignment store, a Seattle showroom, an online sofa brand and IKEA could appear in the same list. Copilot gave the longest lists, 43 names across its 6 answers, against 29 for ChatGPT.

Each question had its own mix

For the question about trusted reviews and reputation, Bedrooms & More was named by all four assistants. For space-saving furniture for a small apartment, Room & Board appeared in three answers, while ChatGPT named IKEA and stores that focus on space-saving furniture, such as Resource Furniture and Murphy Bed Place. For affordable furniture with good value, the answers turned to consignment, outlet and thrift stores: Ballard Consignment and CORT Furniture Outlet each appeared in three answers, and Gemini also named Habitat for Humanity Store, Lifelong Thrift, Target and HomeGoods.

Gemini's answer about quality home furnishings had 9 names, mostly ones no other assistant gave for that question, with Room & Board as the only overlap with the other assistants. The assistants gave different lists for the same question.

The alternatives question named IKEA

Asked for local alternatives to IKEA, Google AI Mode and Copilot named IKEA itself first. Tirto Furniture, DIGS and Seattle Furniture Company each appeared in three of the four answers, and ChatGPT and Gemini both started with Dania Furniture. Copilot's answer had 12 names.

Google AI Mode answered with Google Maps places

Our data All 6 of Google AI Mode's answers came as Google Maps places, 32 in total. They averaged 4.6 stars and the median number of reviews was 85; the store with the fewest had 24. Only 62 percent had 4.5 stars or more, so stores with somewhat lower ratings were shown too. That does not show what role reviews play, only what the stores in these answers had in common.

Where the names come from: websites cited for Seattle furniture stores

Our data ChatGPT attached source links to all 6 of its answers, Copilot to 5, Google AI Mode to 2 and Gemini to none. The most-cited website was seattlesouthside.com, a regional visitor site (6 of 24 answers), followed by three list sites: bestinhood.com, threebestrated.com and mybestseattle.com (5 each). Then came thetimes.com (4), Birdeye reviews, ihrseattle.com and seattlesecrets.org (3 each), and yably.com, loc8nearme.com and yelp.com (2 each).

So in this trade the sources were mostly "best of" lists, local guides and review aggregators, more than stores' own sites. The exception was practical: for the question about a store open today with items in stock, ChatGPT cited the stores' own websites, among them ikea.com, westelm.com, roomandboard.com and ballardconsignment.shop. For the reputation question, Google AI Mode cited Yelp and Checkbook, and ChatGPT cited Houzz among others.

Where US furniture stores are usually listed (advice): Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), Yelp, Houzz for home furnishings, and the dealer locators of the furniture brands you carry. Local "best of" lists choose their own picks, so you can't list yourself there, but you can check that what they say about you is correct.

How customers ask about Seattle furniture stores

Our six questions covered quality furnishings, space-saving furniture for small apartments, affordable furniture, reviews and reputation, a store open today with items in stock, and local alternatives to IKEA. Customers often add a piece, a style, a budget or a delivery need. Questions worth testing, written the way people type them:

  • "Sofa in stock with delivery this week in Seattle"
  • "Mid-century modern furniture store in Capitol Hill, Seattle"
  • "Where to buy a solid wood dining table in Seattle, not particle board"
  • "Furniture consignment store in Seattle that picks up"
  • "Sleeper sofa for a small apartment in Seattle"

Use your own neighborhood, the styles and brands you carry and the services you offer. A question without a place in it can return online brands instead of stores.

The same six-question test was run for neighboring businesses too, for example movers in Denver and house painters in Nashville.

What a furniture store can check about how AI assistants name it

Advice: these checks are practical and most can be done in an afternoon. None of them can promise a mention; they make the facts about your store easy to find and hard to get wrong.

  1. Say what is in stock and how fast it ships. In-stock pieces you can take home or deliver this week, and typical lead times for special orders, as text. One question asked for items in stock today, and stores' own sites were cited for it.
  2. Write your delivery terms. Delivery area by neighborhood and suburb, fees, assembly, removal of old furniture. Customers ask with their location in the question.
  3. Name your styles, materials and brands. Mid-century, Scandinavian, solid wood, performance fabrics, the makers you carry. Many lists mixed stores and brands; text on your site makes the link between them.
  4. Give price ranges. A sentence like "sofas from ... to ..." on category pages helps a customer asking about value and makes your store easier to describe correctly.
  5. Explain consignment or used furniture. If you take consignments or sell used pieces, describe how it works, pickup, and how often stock changes. The value question was answered with consignment and outlet stores.
  6. Keep hours right everywhere. Your site, Google Business Profile, Yelp and Houzz should show the same hours and address, including holiday hours.
  7. Check the lists that were cited. Open seattlesouthside.com, bestinhood.com, threebestrated.com and mybestseattle.com. Are you listed, with the right address, neighborhood and description?

How to check if ChatGPT names your own store

Write five or six questions your customers would ask, with Seattle or your neighborhood in them, and ask several assistants. Note who is named, which chains and brands appear and which websites are cited, then repeat in a few weeks, because the answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and cited websites for every answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.

Questions

Do Google reviews matter for a furniture store to be named by ChatGPT?
We can't say what each assistant weighs. What we saw: the 32 stores Google AI Mode showed from Google Maps averaged 4.6 stars with a median of 85 reviews, and 62 percent had 4.5 stars or more, so stores with somewhat lower ratings were shown too. As advice, an accurate Google listing with recent reviews helps customers anyway.
Can a local furniture store be named by ChatGPT next to IKEA and the national chains?
In this run, yes. Local and regional stores such as Ballard Consignment, Tirto Furniture, Modern Design Sofas and Seattle Furniture Company appeared in 6 or more answers each, next to IKEA, Room & Board, West Elm and World Market.
Which websites do ChatGPT and other assistants cite for furniture stores?
In our Seattle answers mostly local list and guide sites: seattlesouthside.com, bestinhood.com, threebestrated.com and mybestseattle.com. For the question about a store open today with items in stock, ChatGPT cited stores' own websites instead.
How can I check whether ChatGPT names my furniture store?
Ask the questions your customers would ask, with Seattle or your neighborhood written in, to several assistants, and repeat them over a few weeks. CheckAI does this with your own questions across four assistants; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.
