Names as the assistants wrote them, grouped when they meant the same business. One run per question: answers change from run to run, so treat this as a snapshot. We are not affiliated with any business listed and don't rank or endorse them. How we measure

What the answers show about IT support in Philadelphia

Our data On October 14 we asked ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot six questions a small business owner in Philadelphia might ask when looking for IT support. All 24 answers came back, and together they named 65 different companies. 38 of them were named only once. It was one run per question, so read the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking.

Five companies were named by all four assistants: Proper Sky in 12 of 24 answers, ITAdOn in 11, Nettology in 8, and Cityscape Technologies and Insperia in 4 each. Abuzz Technologies reached 7 answers, but only from ChatGPT and Gemini. Partners Plus and Dataprise were each named in 4 answers, all of them by Copilot.

For a managed IT provider, this means a small group recurs across assistants, while most names depend on which assistant was asked. The lists also varied a lot in length: in the Geek Squad question, Copilot named 20 companies in one answer, while ChatGPT named only two in its answer about customer reviews.

The Geek Squad question named Geek Squad first

Asked about alternatives to Geek Squad for small business IT support, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot each put Geek Squad itself first. Google AI Mode then listed consumer repair services such as HelloTech and Half Price Geeks next to local IT firms. ChatGPT named six local IT companies and left Geek Squad out. The results also included home computer repair services.

Specialties and urgency

The healthcare compliance question produced the clearest overlap: Insperia was named by all four assistants, and Gemini and Copilot both named MackTechs first. In the question about urgent troubleshooting, Gemini and Copilot both put ITAdOn first, and Cityscape Technologies appeared in three of the four answers. For a provider with a real specialty, these narrower questions are the ones worth testing.

Google Maps: high stars, mixed review counts

Our data 5 of the 6 Google AI Mode answers came as Google Maps places, 19 companies in total. They averaged 4.93 stars, and all had 4.5 stars or more. The median place had 54 reviews, but the one with the fewest had only 3.

That does not show why a particular company was included. It does show that a small IT firm with few reviews was among these places, as long as its rating was high. For local questions, the Google Business Profile is part of what an assistant can show.

Which websites the answers cite for IT support companies

Our data ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Copilot attached source links to all 6 of their answers; Gemini did so once. The most-cited website was expertise.com (7 of 24 answers), followed by clutch.co and cloudtango.net (4 each), then goodfirms.co, mymsphub.com and cloudsecuretech.com (3 each). Pages on squareup.com were cited in 3 Google AI Mode answers.

IT companies' own sites were cited too: propersky.com, insperia.com and craftech.com in 3 answers each, isny.us in 2. ChatGPT cited the widest range, with up to 10 websites in one answer, including several "best managed service providers" lists. Google AI Mode's Geek Squad answer cited 15 different websites.

Where IT support companies are usually listed and reviewed (advice): the Google Business Profile (it feeds Google Maps), Yelp, directories of managed service providers such as Clutch, Expertise.com and GoodFirms, the partner directories of the vendors you work with (for example Microsoft's partner finder), the Better Business Bureau, and local chamber of commerce and industry association member lists.

How small businesses ask AI assistants about IT support in Philadelphia

Our six questions covered a general recommendation, a specialty (healthcare compliance), affordability, customer reviews, urgent troubleshooting, and alternatives to Geek Squad. Owners usually describe their setup and the problem. Questions worth testing, written the way people type them:

  • "Managed IT for a 15-person accounting firm in Center City Philadelphia, flat monthly price"
  • "Who can move our office from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365, small business in King of Prussia?"
  • "Our server is down, IT company near Conshohocken that can come today"
  • "IT support for a dental office in Cherry Hill NJ that understands HIPAA"
  • "Cybersecurity and backups for a small manufacturer in Bucks County"

Use the industries, services and towns you actually cover. A narrow question is where a smaller provider has the best chance to appear next to the names above.

What an IT support company can check to show up in AI answers

Advice: these checks are concrete and most take an afternoon. None of them can promise a mention; they make it easier for anyone reading about your company to describe it correctly.

  1. Describe your plans and what they include. Help desk hours, response times, on-site visits, monitoring, backups and security: as text on a services or pricing page, not only in a sales PDF.
  2. Show how you price. One question asked for affordable IT support. Per-user or per-device pricing, a typical monthly range, and whether there is an onboarding fee answer that question for a buyer.
  3. Make emergency support clear. One question asked for urgent troubleshooting. Say whether you take calls from non-clients, your after-hours number, and how fast you can be on site. Use the same hours on the Google Business Profile.
  4. Write industry pages only where you have clients. Healthcare, legal, accounting, manufacturing: name the frameworks you work with (such as HIPAA) and link a case study. Leave out industries and certifications you cannot back up.
  5. List your service area as text. Philadelphia neighborhoods and suburbs you cover, such as Center City, King of Prussia, Bucks County or South Jersey, written out rather than shown only as a map.
  6. Name your vendor partnerships. Microsoft, Google, backup and security vendors: say which ones, at which level, and keep your listing in their partner directories current.
  7. Check your directory profiles. On Expertise.com, Clutch, GoodFirms and Cloudtango, check services, location, company size and reviews, and that your company name matches your site.

How to check whether ChatGPT names your IT support company

Write down five or six questions your clients would ask, with Philadelphia or their suburb and the problem they have, and ask several assistants. Note who is named, in which order, and which websites are cited, then repeat after a few weeks, because answers change. CheckAI checks your own customer questions across the same four assistants and shows the names and cited websites for every answer; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free. Our guide on how to check if ChatGPT names your business walks through the manual version.

Questions

Which IT support companies does ChatGPT recommend in Philadelphia?
In our October 14 run, the four assistants gave 65 different names in 24 answers, 38 of them only once. Proper Sky was named most often, in 12 of 24 answers. One run per question, so a snapshot, not a ranking.
Do reviews matter for ChatGPT naming an IT support company?
We can't say how an assistant weighs them. In this run, the 19 Google Maps places in Google AI Mode's answers averaged 4.93 stars with a median of 54 reviews, but the one with the fewest had only 3. As advice, ask satisfied clients for a Google review after a project or a resolved incident, because buyers read them.
Does a HIPAA or compliance page help an IT support company get named?
We did not measure that. In our healthcare compliance question, Insperia was named by all four assistants and insperia.com was cited in three of those answers. As advice, describe only the compliance work you actually do, with the frameworks and client types by name.
Which directories do AI assistants cite for IT support companies?
In our answers: expertise.com (7 of 24), clutch.co and cloudtango.net (4 each), goodfirms.co and mymsphub.com (3 each). Your own questions may show different sources.
How can I check whether ChatGPT names my IT support company?
Ask several assistants the questions your clients ask, with Philadelphia or their suburb written in, and repeat over a few weeks. CheckAI does this with your own questions across four assistants; a first check on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode is free.
